Manual Handling Tasks

  • Keep load close to body when carrying / pushing /pulling. Maintain elbows by side.
  • Avoid twisting whilst carrying items.
  • Avoid static rotated postures by ensuring “nose over toes” principle always. Feet should be facing direction of movement and/or peer direction.
  • Avoid static reach postures with arms at or above shoulder height.
  • Avoid static reach postures with arms extended to outer body range.
  • Avoid lifting heavy loads at or above shoulder height.
  • To achieve neutral spine alignment, remember the 3 C’s. Can be achieved in seated or standing position,
  1.  CORE ensure hips are level. Avoiding tendency to tip in forward, back, left,right direction
  2. CHEST lift sternum upwards to open chest
  3. CHIN tuck chin inwards toward body
